RADIO SILENCE

OBJECTIVE
To redesign an existing book cover with a heavy emphasis on typography.
PROCESS
All around ace, Frances Janvier, has very distinct public and private personas. In her last year before University, she grapples with what she's been told the future should look like for her versus what she wants it to be.
My idea for the redesign started with a torn up speech that shows the tagline of the book through a "blackout poetry" approach, referencing the speech Frances starts the story with to campaign for Head Girl. Underneath is a desk and the title of the book, Radio Silence, etched into the wood to convey themes of rebellion. The back cover features a scrawled summary to represent Frances' breakaway from the rigid structures of her life.
TAKEAWAYS
This design was originally created entirely within Illustrator, but upon seeing it wasn't working, I pivoted to photography and scans after receiving some critique in class. In Photoshop, I manipulated all the images and the text to achieve the desired effect and landed on an end product that I'm really proud of. Despite being initially resistant to shifting my approach, I realized how powerful critique can be and how much a design can improve once you learn to objectively metabolize constructive feedback.
